Social Media Marketing Tips

Decide who are you & what do you represent?

You need to understand what it is you offer and be able to summarise it in 1 sentence. Aka the "elevator pitch". Probably best to focus on one product at a time so that you can maximise the profile of each.

Be consistent with your branding

The name you use for your website should then glide over to your Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts for continuity and ease of use. Think what do people call what you have. Make it easy.

Don't just waffle on

With information overload it is important to catch people's attention so keep to the point and be interesting.

Be regular

Many people start a blog and spend thousands on its creation. Then follow up with silence. You need to make sure you or someone else is creating content on a regular basis to keep the river flowing and the visitors landing. Consistency over frequency in general.

Be visible

Social media is social so you need to be visible. Adding content to the web is a great way to increase your visibility but so is running regular events both on and offline to boost brand awareness. Be visible in your chosen social networking channels too.

Be Authentic - engage in real time

The quicker you can respond to someone's question the brighter you will shine in their eyes. Automating posts via systems makes things very impersonal and can devalue your brand. Handle with care or preferably be manual and add a personal note. Strengthen connections.

Fish where the fish are

Find where your customers are hanging out online and then provide them with relevant information in small chunks, driving them back to your main website for more.

Google Alerts - make articles relevant

Writing articles which will ping the mail boxes of those in power will turn their lights on you. Use key words in your articles.

Enhance your reputation through sharing

You don't have to write everything yourself. If you see something that others would appreciate then share it. Existing fans will appreciate this and recognise your input. Importantly, those whose information you share will also be grateful. The value of building your reputation with your peers can never be underestimated.

Make it FUN

Most of us like to be educated and informed with a bit of humour thrown in. Make people want more of what you have.
