Choose your 2009 e Christmas card
|
In our desire to do our bit to be eco friendly many will choose to move away from the mass mailing of traditional Christmas cards. I know it makes sense when you think about the trees that must be involved, but like everything there must be an alternative that is eco friendly but in a managed and sustainable way.
I cannot help but feel that Christmas cards are part of our tradition and a great way to let people know you are thinking about them- even if it is just once a year! I still get a nice warm feeling when I see a Christmas card plop through my letter box, knowing I haven’t been forgotten! So what are the alternatives? There is a whole host of companies offering recycled or eco friendly Christmas cards if you search the web, so it really does just come down to a matter of choice. These caught my attention, (although I cannot vouch personally whether any of them are genuinely ‘green’ or offer a good service- you will have to do your own research!!) Some offer gifts as well as cards, but there are many more... www.naturalcollection.com www.nigelsecostore.com www.allthingsgreen.net www.greencharitycards.co.uk/ Perhaps there is a compromise to be made. If you do still prefer a traditional approach, then remember to recycle. The woodland trust can help with this www.woodland-trust.org.uk Maybe we need to be more discerning about the number of cards we send as well as where we buy from. That is probably true about most things- not just Christmas cards! There is of course the alternative of eChristmas cards. These won’t appeal to everyone, but they certainly have their place in modern society. Particularly business to business. The advantages are of obvious, no trees used, no postage, speedy delivery and you still can still make a donation to your favourite charity with the money you will save! The internet is full of fun and clever ecards to choose from. Some are even free! I particularly liked the selection on www.devilcards.com. These are mainly aimed at smaller, personal mailings, but there are design companies that can give you a bespoke service, adding your own message and company logo. The cost of course will vary enormously, according to your requirements and the services offered. If you would like to look at this alternative then speak to the nice people at www.liaiseonline.co.uk who will happy to point you in the right direction. |
