Analytics - who is visting your website

Using Google's suite of web analytics to determine your next strategic business lead generation move makes for good business practice.

Google's tracking code allows you to see who is visiting your website, how they found you, the pages they go to, how they exit and so much more. Being able to have a snap shot in time of what is working and when is a great starting point. Obviously the tracking only tells you what is happening, it can't tell you what you're missing.

Google AdWords keyword tool

To get a picture of what is going on you can review Google's key word tool in their AdWord toolkit. This gives you an idea of the key phrases people are using but only paints part of the picture. If you cross reference what it says is generally happening with your own real world experience you will see that it is very much a general, rather than precise science.

Analytics tools need a random component - YOU ;)

With any analytics tools you need to throw in one or more random components based on your mood, which way the wind is blowing and what you think is right. The tracking will tell you if you are on the money with the number of visitors now finding your website.

If you are selling retail products then your PayPal account will tell you if you have your message right based on conversions to sale... after all that has to be the ultimate measure.

If you are working business to business then take a look at the car you are driving, that will tell you if you are on the money.
